Antenatal Care

The mother-child-pass, which was created about 30 years ago, is an inherent part of the Austrian health care system and features an important preventive health service. The question arising is however whether the programme corresponds to the needs of the target population and to current state of the art knowledge respectively practice.
The Main Association of Austrian Social Security Institutions has commissioned the London School of Economics and Political Science to undertake an analysis of international evidence with regard to antenatal care (the mother-child pass covers antenatal and postnatal care). The analysis was aimed at finding out whether the status quo in Austria matches international standards as well as identifying potential new aspects which could enter the Austrian discussion process.
